I dont really think many of us read this blog anymore, at least not me until jonothon the slack noob told me he was reading it at work. And he almost got me into trouble cos i read the blog too and almost LOL hahahahah

Even though this blog is almost dead, i am now trying to revive it.. so here goes...

zomg it be of the long time since we left school and all the nonsense that it entailed..even though some things last forever: diamonds, jen hans horniness, and i simply refuse to say j queks and yi liangs ugliness cos...oh woops too late :)

actually, come to think of it, nothing much has changed when it comes to us. when we meet we are transported back to 3 (!) years ago, when NS was a looming nightmare, and we were still immature little boys. Now we are still immature little boys but NS is over (sorry kt, and zy who ords in 2049?)

hello to everyone!! first off, to j quek, i be of platoon 1, so less interaction with you know who, but when he wing di, we still be owned(read: turnout). its still kinda weird for me cos i was with poh and keith for 14 weeks in tango, and now its a whole new set of people in delta. they take the phrase "the best welfare is tough training" very seriously, while foxtrot seems to think the more relaxed the better haha, but thats just my perspective, maybe they are more xiong?

hope to see everyone for joint term, all with their own stories and experiences to share. for zeng and keith, well, be sure that we'll make full use of your talents (consultations and changes to the army anyone?)

this years nationals were a slight disappointment i must admit, but nevertheless, i dont think the results matter so much, its up to the juniors to decide how they want to treat the canoe experience.

hi2u all it's been a really long time lol

anyway here i am to update since i have time this wkend(!!!). so yes i'm now in armour infantry in the same section as mr n00b poh lol and we are in t3h bionix plt. and armour is tons tough la if fail test get confinement wtf. so looks like i'll be stuck in camp rather often lol(together with poh though hoho). armour is pretty famour for being tons tough like mega no slps and imba fitness. armour standard for ippt is gold with <9.15 for 2.4(wtf?) and less than 8.45 for SOC(ok la). but how come we need to be so fit if we sit in vehicle -_-".

sooo let me tell you some stories abt armour! on xiong wks we get 7hrs of slp a week! yayyyyy! our passing mark for tests is 80% and 90% for tsr tests! woohooo confinement! vehicle servicing takes up tons long of time and there are like 5 types of oil/grease to use to clean weapons and vehicles! so our hands will be black! and we dont march, we double from point to point! god save me.

so...i think my life for the next 6 months is quite gg-ed unlike bloody ATO wenwei and signals n00b edwin and more like the combat engineer bryan man(crazy la).
but nevermind la we get to drink tons of free beer(more like forced
to) and we get to wear a black beret on the parade square unlike
the rest of the formations hoho. so yeah i guess its about personal pride
la even lublub got sword of merit last year wtf la.

i hope the infantry guys are enjoying it especially mike in delta haha particularly LTA FOXTROT ZULU and his field pack inspections (: but delta rocks anyway.

actually time really flies. it's already been a year since nats and almost

well it's my first post for once and uhhh the first post in this blog in a rather long time too (4 months).

i know everyone is very busy but hey it'll be very good if everyone posts a few sentences or so every weekend to keep the blog alive. :)

well i'm very busy too, considering that i'm an ATO now. for those who don't know, that's Army Technical Officer, a most unheard of 3 letter abbreviation, and it comes bundled with the most heard question: wtf is it??! well at this point in time i have no idea too, i'll know on the 16th (yes i have a 5 days break after brunei, sigh... :) ), that's when i'll go in..... ah well.

actually i wanted to remain in infantry and go guards. but by the hands of some higher power the winds of change altered my fate and now instead of a khaki beret it'll be a blue one. when i knew it i was very sad.... haaaaiiz, i thought, can't get to go jcc and chiong and do outfield.. (i know some people want to kill me now ahh)

but nevermind! gotten over it now :) at least we do enjoy some benefits that not everyone has, albeit only a teeny weeny few benefits. like erm few (rather, no) outfield, supposed bookouts on fris, etc etc.

yup so that's what i'm currently doing now :)

This discussion is on 2 high level items (1) The immovable object (a shield) and (2) the Unstoppable Force ( a 2 handed mace)

What happens if The Unstoppable Force hits the Immovable Object?

Assuming both of these are possible, we must also assume that the universe is infinite,
and we must assume the unstoppable force has infinite kinetic energy and the immovable
object has infinite mass. If the force is unstoppable we must conclude that there is no
possible way for it to change vectors or speed, and therefore a transferrance of energy
is impossible and the law of conservation of momentum is meaningless. If the object has
infinite mass then it must be infinitely large, and in an infinite universe the object

tells us that the unstoppable force and the immovable object must exist in two different
dimentions from each other, making it impossible for them to collide unless the unstoppable
force enters a worm hole to the dimention of the immovable object. If the object does take
up an entire universe and is in fact immovable, there is no possible way for the unstoppable
force to enter the universe unless it is finite and stoppable, and since it is infinite,
the only explanation is that the unstoppable force leaves one dimention into a worm hole
and tries to enter the dimention of the immovable object and is ejected through another
worm hole into a dimention exactly opposite of the immovable object, thus retaining its

Then ask him whether he's managed to finish his entire maths tys (minus particle mechanics) in 48 hours worth of study time afterall. because today whilst we were in the library that was what he was trying to do, despite our constant chiding that perhaps it wasn't wise to do questions older than him with words such as find the (biffidective??sth like that) on the first page of functions, or our reminder that if he could do the whole thing in 48 hours, there wasnt any need to do it at all.
As a counterexample i shall quote myself, and more strikingly uglen, as people that will not finish the tys any time soon despite overwhelming proof we do need to try. however my strategy is to do papers instead which is a better way of doing less. but anyhow edwin interspersed persuading himself to continuing on with his ridiculous task with complaining

about his conduct on his report slip. which was fairly ridiculous because he kept complaining how he should deserve excellent conduct instead of very good. despite how nobody, seriously, cares too much about it. we tried to tell him the benefits of cost benefit analysis(no benefit of changing, high possible cost of screwing urself up) however he continued complaining about it, however i guess our advice was taken better this time because i dont think he actually tried to do twist his ct's arm into changing the conduct.

reminder that this is all done in edwin's excellent gp english style which made the whole thing sound quite funny. the climax was probably when he finally complained that he wasnt able to study(ie do his tys)with all of us and hence moved over to the other table to engage in his own intellectual marathon with the book.

so anw we(wang and i, and im sure the ppl at e other table wld have) were making comments on how stupid t1 ppl were. but a short while later we were forced to swallow our words when this other person showed up which made edwin's behaviour seem well, smart. no prizes for guessing- the dude we're talking abt here is kaiyang.

so anw, ky was super enraptured by these new blue chairs the library purchased, which were especially cool firstly because they were a bright blue, secondly because they had metal feet, and thirdly because they have that mechanism which lets u jerk the seat up and down like u can do in a swivel chair. somehow he got the idea that potent combination of elements turns the chair into some cross between a toy and a weapon. come to think of it, there might not be too great a difference. but anw he was doing stuff like pulling the crank whilst his friend was on the chair to make the chair go down, lifting the chair up and doing dunno what with it, or sitting on it, setting it spinning with him on it, and pulling the crank so he wld spiral down towards earth. then he wld go to us with this damn pleased look on his face and saying stuff like 'ehhh the chair is damn cool la'(ok i might have gotten the quote wrong but tt's e main gist of it.)

for once, i shall post something serious thanks.

after yesterdays farewell, we've finally graduated from canoeing.and on the bus home with fruit the black,we started talking abit about canoeing,and what we've achieved over the past two years.

well remember the first few trainings, when we first got into canoe?at that point,roy challenged us to be THE batch to turn things around for rjcanoeing.haha and we were some noobs at that time too.well in this aspect,i'm very sure that aced that challenge indeed.for once, we weren't content with getting 3rd only.for once, we had the most boats in the finals. for once, we were within a 2nd place medal.it's been a really big turnaround for rjcanoeing, and i think all of us would agree on that.so yes, kudos to us all cos we are t3h pwn4g3 hurhur.

and at our zenith of physical fitness(oh how we have fallen), we were imba fit and strong.i've just realised how far we have come since joining canoeing.haha remember the times when 50 pull ups took us 1.5hours?and we had to do it in sets of 5 assisted?haha that was super loser.then we slowly improved till we reached sets of 20 pullups.and now we are back at the loser phase :/.anyway what im trying to say is that canoeing made men out of us,and so we are REAL MEN.thnx i am so profound.

but most importantly,i think what really made the difference for our team was our screwedup-ness.haha seriously we are the most screwed up bunch of people in rj, and thats blooody cool aint it?and cos of that, we made rjcanoeing what it is.it's not just about pullups and running and shit, its about all the memories and fun that we had together,such as laughing at jenhan's HBness and how fruit is black and how wang is ugly and a dota nub,and weeseng's zsqying to the max and great gp skills.this team is seriously made up of a great bunch of people,and i'm sure everyone agrees,even though we're really screwd up.

hopefully,as we grow up,go to uni,study work marry start families,we'll still remain in contact.imagine if we meet up 30 years from now, at the ripe old age of 48,what would we remember?it's the bonds and friendships that we've formed as a team.yup so let's keep this blog alive, and meet up regularly and just stay in touch.because we're rjcanoe 06,THE team that i'm so proud to be part of.

Remember how we used to train until 8+ and cheer our hearts out in semi darkness on mondays and thursdays? remember how we survived the ggxxyyzzuberstupidandlong selection process for canoeing....then edwin got kicked out coz he had no potential and i got kicked out coz i too short(stupid jiao lian), remember how 60 pullups was like crap shit to the max for us....and us aching like some @$#%#$%#TR#$T@#$%@#$%^@%#T$GT^%^$^^$%@#$@#? haha time sure flies. Its been two years with you guys, screwing around, me slacking my ass off coz im, well, lazy. and yet its been really a very amazing 2 years for me, really honoured to have you guys as my team mates. The effort i see many of you guys put in, to name some, michael rowing like mad, en qing, never giving up, wei han and weishern, the wei brothers always sluggng it out in their free time, and our resident genius of hard work, chan wee, hacking his ass off after trainings, all really inspired me...and i mean it....will never forget.
Very soon, we will be hitting the A levels and it seems that it was only yesterday we were trying to throw kaicher into yi liang's pool and the HBs were discussing abt the DNBs in the team....or when we ran our guts out in the fartleks(how you spell i donch noe) and uglen comes in last or when yi liang was first decalred ugly by j quek.....(OH THE BITTER IRONY) >_<
or when keith tried to discount my number of push ups in the selection trials and some other guy said he was screwed up :P. time sure flies. After As, some of us will be going overseas to study, making new friends in the army, moving on in life, starting a family, taking care of wife, kids maybe, girlfriend... really hope that we will stay in touch. There is little permenance for us in this modern fast paced society, friends come and go, resolutions made, resolutions lost in the hectic schedules....friends meant to be kept in touch, forgotten. but really hope in some way or another, we will stay in contact as a team, and in the future, when say Jen Han starts a company selling high tech condoms or sth, we can all get discounts. You know what i mean.
Hence, hope that we can stay in touch, stay together, go out for a drink in the future, and please keep this blog alive. :)

its funny but the past 2 days have seemed to past pretty slowly and though my parents are bugging me to get back to work i insist that till marking days is a pretty reasonable period of resttime. so anyhow,
today was really quite fun dota after relli long. once again yiliang consolidated his position as being little more than a normal creep and slightly under a mega creep, especially durign the last game when his reaction to encountering swarms of large creeps is to run into them and get surrounded...
on another random note, we spent lunchtime talking abt fun stuff like animorphs and batman and beastwar transformers which i do believe we demonstrated spectacular knowledge of, esp so immediately after prelims.
so then whos up for soccer on monday? some1 say a tiem la....mebbe morning or so b4 the sun comes up. then we have the aftn ahead of us.

on further thought this blog title is probably abit inaccurate, but since it sounds good and since everybody knows what it implies i shall just use it for want of a better title.

now where were we? ah yes. the Story.

today i decided to go to school to study. so i plonked myself in the canteen and went about it. enqing joined me for awhile before he went off to sit a few tables away from me with some of his classmates. (we'll come back to this fact later) and not too long after that XL walked by and enqing grinned at me and raised his eyebrows in the way he always does when he wants to be cunning. as if on cue keith plodded along looking cool in black windbreaker bursting at its seams and slapped a friendly pat onto XL's shoulder. which is quite muhahah so welldone keith! and enqing continued laughing and winking.

which is very ironic because enqing was having fun getting it going with his Classmate (empHAsize the singulaR) and My goodness they were hAvINg a good timE. laughs. and when we were talking about seniors and girlfriends and how cunning they were i just mentioned maybe enqing didnt need to wait so long. and he just laughed and smiled.

for want of a change from the youtube videos that are innundating this place i decided to post some text for a change. some of u tt, specifically those tt asked for my 3 achievements for reference, have seen this before. its basically my 1st attempt at the one i was gonna write on canoeing. however i redid this when everyone started telling me it read like a yrbk entry and moreover it did not fit into that ghey 3rd person requirement. however i guess there could be another avenue for its existence; namely here. pls take note that its qt personal so if u dont agree with whats written it would be nice not to hit out on whatever it is too hard. thx.

Joining canoeing with no prior experience was quite literally a step out into deeper waters. Though a semifinals placing was the final reward for over a years expenditure of physical energy, mental strength, and time, the intangible benefits far outweighed what the final result might suggest.
RJ Canoeing could be summed up as a perpetual clash between idealism and reality. Rafflesians, used to being at the top, sometimes hold a smug, foolish belief that being from Raffles means deserving success. Coming in dead last against others who were simply better at the NJCC in April, with many other teammates achieving similar results, foreshadowed a poor showing at the Nationals. But waking up to that brought new epiphanies. Kayaking in this context meant learning that even in a loss, there could be victory in the knowledge that one had tried one's best. It illuminated how even after pouring in lavish amounts of effort, one might still not succeed, a minor revelation in a sense, and it also helped one learn to accept it. Stepping out of the comfort zone in this manner helped reveal what one could achieve through effort and rigour, even as it exposed what one could not.
Medal hopes degenerating to a race with a teammate for the last competing berth shattered a year long dream that the entire team could compete together. Having something at a friend's expense highlighted the callous nature of sports and life starkly. But team spirit and friendships, especially in facing adversity, was a valuable and heartwarming experience. Knowing we were ultimately a team, even if individually we faltered, collectively we could not better our team placing, and even if some might even have misunderstood us as having failed, was a paradoxically undesired yet enjoyable emotion.
Saying sports is not simply about winning suffices only on the most general level. The experiences derived from the time spent paddling at college remain fundamentally unique, and immeasurably valuable.

a few thoughts on what makes canoeing so special. i'm sorry for the length. lol.

Flat-water sprint canoeing is most definitely the defining aspect of my Rafflesian experience—nearly everything, with the occasional exception or two, has revolved around training and racing in this sport. And yet without doubt, joining the sport of canoeing has been one of my best life decisions and one that I do not in the least regret.

Canoeing is a sport where Rafflesian paddlers are inherently disadvantaged and are keenly aware of it; we have no prior training or experience and often have to race other paddlers with 4 years or more of competitive experience. While joining such a sport may seem like folly to some, I believe that competing as the underdog has definitely added to the value of my canoeing experience.

A well-known cliché states that adversity brings out the best in some and the worst in others, and this too holds true in my chosen sport. It was in training and competition when the pain was unbearable and the end no where in sight that I learnt the most about not just myself, but also fellow competitors and team-mates, both as a paddlers and people. Sprint canoeing, contrary to its misleading name, is not true sprinting in that careful pacing and strategising play a big role in the outcome of a race. A paddler’s tactics and the way he conducts himself when challenged or overtaken unveils volumes about his personality, determination and desperation that no test can ever reveal (I for one prefer to race at a constant pace, overtake in the late stages, and avoid getting drawn into battles that are impossible to win). Indeed, it is often true that the people whom we train and race with the most—our team-mates—are the people who know us best.

Even though it is for the sake of competition that we train, it is undoubtedly from training that I have gained the most. It has been said that it is when a person has nothing left to give and yet gives of himself that he truly gives, and this statement has been more than true in my canoeing journey. The physical benefits of pushing past the pain in training are obvious, but even greater were the psychological gains. Having to challenge the pain barrier both in competition and training has not proved to be the most pleasant of experiences, but has undoubtedly helped me in understanding my mental and physical limitations, over time instilling greater confidence in myself both as a paddler and as a person.

However, the inherent value of competing does not end there; I have found the chances competitions offer to meet and race paddlers from other schools who share the same passion for the sport, but yet are fundamentally different in that their training experiences are not that of the Rafflesian, to be both valuable and enriching. Over the ages it has been through the quiet words of congratulation and the shaking of hands that fast sporting friendships are formed, and it is the common pride in the sport that can make the fiercest of rivals the best of friends once past the finishing line.

I have indeed been blessed with a bronze medal from the 2006 National Inter-schools Canoeing Championship, the main competition of the year, yet I cannot help but feel that a single piece of metal is an unfair representation of my canoeing career as a Rafflesian. Yes, I have given much for the sport, but the sport has done far more for me. It has allowed me to see the best and worst in myself, taught me to deal with desperation, anxiety and pain, and above all else, taught me pride not just in being a Rafflesian or a paddler, but also in being a sportsman, in the spirit of sport.

Canoe Nationals

Tomorrow marks the start of the nationals, which signals the climax of our short but fulfilling canoe careers. I just want to say that i definitely have enjoyed all my time in raffles canoeing..what with all the crap that we do and the nonsense that we talk.This has been one of my best life choices, and i have no regrets in joining the team.

So as i sit here typing, getting ready for tomorrows nationals, i want to wish everyone competing the best of luck, and that may they do their best and leave nationals believing that they have done their best, regardless of the result.... RAFFLES ROW!!!

if u chose to ignore that, here are some real tips

1. the ball be round. there is no such thing as a confirm win bet. there is possible/probable/immensely likely but no confirm. so if u put ur lifesavings on some match and lose dont go bitch to pple

2. dont look at the odds before u decide. immense odds have a tendency to affect the judgement of even the best of us.

3. dont think too much. first instinct be good. u always end up convincing urself tt some unreal shit will happen after thinking alot and hence u will lose money and then spend the next day wondering why japan didnt pwn brazil 237963459-0.

4. pls only bet when ur confident. if u are going to lose sleep over it, fq. dont bet on tt.

i think in the span of 1 yr alot has really changed. like have u all noticed sth?

now when we talk about gosu rowers we add the suffix -man behind their name and call them real men. theres no lack of examples eg brianman, kaiyangman, etc

but you know last year, when we talk about those ppl, we called them monsters. isnt it strange how 2 nouns typically considered direct polarities could be used to refer to the same group of ppl.

but even whilst we marvel at the movement up the evolution ladder, its still kinda nice to know theres some still bits of the past that remain with us.

some of us are fast but are still being referred to as monster.

so it happened that we merry people were to meet in the morning at 8.30 for a little morning row. sky looked abit dark and it was drizzling a little, but nothing serious really. kt called to ask whether we were still training cuz the weather didnt look good and so i told him that maybe he should come down and camp around and wait till the rain wasnt as heavy.

of course keith was a little hum. he stayed home till the rain stopped abit more and then arrived at 9.30. but. once we finally hit the water it started raining after we finished ONE 500m. -_-"

see lah keith. come late so as not to get wet and we get even wetter. you goooood. hahahha.
